Virtual Art Classes
Contemporary Studies (ages 14-18) is a new camp group we have started with our teen teacher assistants in mind, who won’t be able to volunteer this summer, but are interested in art. It is also open to any other interested teens who would like to further their knowledge of art techniques and materials. Participants will have the opportunity for in depth exploration of things such as Advanced Acrylic Painting Techniques, Pen & Ink, Color Theory & Watercolor/Gouache. There will also be discussion of topics such as portfolio development and careers in art. We will have the opportunity to learn to use the resources available from our local museums and galleries!

WEEK 3: JUNE 15 - JUNE 19, 2020 - WATERCOLOR & GOUACHE - AN ILLUSTRATORS DREAM!
Students will learn the ins, outs and tricks to watercolor and gouache painting. Create an artist journal to work in during the week. Art journaling prompts and line art. Advanced doodling with color and design. Students will use artist grade watercolor and/or gouache sets, brushes, gel pens, and watercolor paper in a variety of illustration projects.
WEEK 4: JUNE 22 - JUNE 26, 2020 - STILL LIFE WORKSHOP & DRAWING TECHNIQUES
Drawing from life is a fundamental skill for all artists. Students will focus on drawing found objects in fun and entertaining ways. Expand on concepts of light and shadow, and negative and positive space, pattern, and more. Students will be refining their skills working with drawing pencils, charcoal, and colored pencils.
WEEK 5: JUNE 29 - JULY 3, 2020 - COLOR STUDY - COLORED PENCILS & ACRYLIC PAINTING
One of the basic fundamentals of art is Color Study. Students will spend the week focusing on principles, theories, history and applications of additive and subtractive color in two dimensions. They will be working in color & black and white to understand these concepts. Students will be learn to use a limited palette of acrylic paints and will be working in their artist journal.
WEEK 6: JULY 6 - JULY 10, 2020 - SCULPTURE, COLLAGE AND SITE SPECIFIC WORKS: RECYCLE, REUSE, & REPURPOSE
Finding inspiration for most artists means going out into the world but when we are in isolation how do you find that inspiration? Students will learn about the many resources we have in Sarasota that can bring world class fine art to their own space. They will be tasked with creating art by reusing materials. With an emphasis on creating in the moment, anywhere you may be.
WEEK 7: JULY 13 - JULY 17, 2020 - ADVANCED MARK MAKING, ACRYLIC PAINTING ON CANVAS
This week students will expand their horizons with acrylic paint on canvas. We will build on the skills they already have and learn from some of art history’s most influential artists. This is a great opportunity to sharpen some skills and spend the week painting away!
WEEK 8: JULY 20 - JULY 24, 2020 - PEN & INK
In this week students will be learning about composition & honing their drawing skills at whatever level they may be at. Learning all about professional artist drawing tools they will have a chance to expand their drawing skills. A better understanding of translating textures in this medium as well as bringing shapes to life! Students will be working with artist pencil sets & pens.
